Mathias Schneider - Independent Swiss watchmaker since 2015

Even as a student at the University of Applied Sciences in Furtwangen, I was fascinated by the CURTA calculating machine. After more than 15 years as a development engineer at well-known watch companies (e.g. Glashütte Original, A. Lange & Söhne), I set up my own watch workshop in 2015.

To honor Curt Herzstark and his life's work, we have developed a CURTA watch over the last few years. We have invested a lot of time in creating a CURTA watch that corresponds to the design and operation of the CURTA calculating machine. It has a simple dial, the typical CURTA date display and contains six original CURTA parts.

An interesting addition to the CURTA machine for collectors. The clock was manufactured as far as possible on machines of the same design as the CURTA calculating machine.

We also had the aluminum box, which can be used for both the watch and the CURTA II, reproduced in Switzerland according to the original.

The case, crown and clasp have the typical CURTA knurling to remain true to the original machine.
Each watch is handcrafted in our workshop in Switzerland.

As Curt Herzstark's granddaughter, I am delighted to continue the history of CURTA together with Mathias Schneider and his team. The memories of my grandfather are inextricably linked to his life's work. He lived and worked in Liechtenstein, and I was often able to visit him during my vacations. On these occasions, he showed me his invention and we solved small arithmetic problems on the Curta together.

Over the last 30 years, the smallest mechanical calculator in the world has become a coveted collector's item. My grandfather would certainly be delighted that his legacy continues to be appreciated. In addition to selling and overhauling the CURTA calculating machines, the M. Schneider watchmaking workshop has developed a mechanical watch in recent years that pays homage to Curt Herzstark with its unique design.
